Pangaea Adventures LLC

Pangaea Adventures is the Alaska Based adventure travel company specializing in Sea Kayaking, Backpacking, and Multisport adventures throughout Alaska. Pangaea Adventures takes these activities and offers a variety of guided tours with different comfort levels based around camping, mothership or a wilderness lodge. Sea kayak day tours are also a highlight activity offered on a daily basis to local glaciers in Prince William Sound.

Founded in 1996 by Kenny Blum, Pangaea adventures has grown from a tiny 2 guide outfit offering a few camping tours each year to a larger 8-12 guide outfit offering over 20 different tour options with even more custom trips available. Kenny is still an active guide in the company!

Pangaea Adventures is proud to offer guided tours where over 60% of its customers come from past customer referrals. Seeing that the destinations speak for themselves, Pangaea prides itself on customer service, quality itineraries and top of the line equipment. "Travelers vacations start far before they show up at our office. We take a personal approach when planning their vacation to make sure the guests get the trip they are both looking for and suited for. We then show them the time of their lives!"

Pangaea Adventures focuses on destinations off the beaten path. The areas of travel are mostly in Prince William Sound and Wrangell St. Elias National Park, but a few trips do explore other popular areas including Denali National Park. Prince William Sound is a large body of water protected from the wind and waves of the Gulf of Alaska, making it a wonderful place to sea kayak and explore by small charter boats. Tours explore the furthest reaches of the Sound and focus on tide water glaciers and remote bays. Over the years the tours have been refined to follow the most pristine stretches of coastline offering the best campsites and protected waters. The wildlife and scenery are spectacular.

Pangaea Adventures offers trips from early May through early September when the weather is best. When guests ask which time is best to travel, the easy answer is any of these months. Tours depart when the days are long and the temperatures are at their warmest.

Different trips for different interests. Pangaea offers a variety of guided tours to enable travelers of all ages, abilities and interests to join.

Sea Kayak Camping Tours are offered from two departure cities, Valdez and Anchorage.  The main office is located in Valdez and most of the trips meet at this office. Valdez is the gateway to Northeastern Prince William Sound, home of the famous Columbia Glacier. Trips from Valdez also explore Shoup Glacier and Meares Glacier with tours that explore a portion of every stretch in between. Anchorage departures were added in 2002 to decrease the travel time to get to tours that explore southwestern Prince William Sound. These destinations include knight Island and Icy Bay. Whale watching is the motivation for many travelers to choose the Icy Bay region over the Columbia Glacier region.

Multisport Adventure Tours offer travelers the opportunity to explore both the coastal and interior mountain regions of Alaska. Pangaea Adventures offers two levels of travel on the multisport tours.

  • High Adventure Multisport trips consist of a mix of sea kayak camping in Prince William Sound and backpacking in Wrangell St. Elias National park.  These trips are the most rugged in terms of comfort level and difficulty. Guests carry their own packs across glaciers and over tundra.
  • Cross-Country Multisport trips are based around a mix of day hikes and a few days of kayak camping. Itineraries are designed to explore a larger area of Alaska including Denali National park, Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Prince William Sound. Accommodations are a mixture of hotels, lodges and camping.

Mothership Based Adventures are designed to get travelers into the wilderness without loosing the comforts of home. Motherships are small charter boats that accommodate 4-6 guests and 3 crew members. Pangaea Adventures offers a variety of both sailboats and motorboats to charter as floating bed and breakfasts. Each day is spent exploring Prince William Sound by kayak or hikes. The guests are then treated to comfortable berths, fine cuisine and the chance to take a hot shower. The captain sets anchor each night in a different protected bay.

Prince William Sound Wilderness Lodge is located about 25 miles from Valdez and offers travelers a chance to have a land based wilderness base with easy access to hiking and sea kayaking. The trips are designed to offer an active vacation and comfortable wilderness based accommodations. Trips range from 3-5 days with longer stays available on a custom basis. The lodge sleeps 8 guests in 4 private rooms.

Pangaea Adventures is the most respected sea kayak company in Alaska and it is apparent when anyone is asked about Pangaea throughout the state. The reputation is based on fun guides, outstanding customer service, and quality tours.
